Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am delighted to have you in my science class. My name is Mrs. Wetzler. I graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2008 and received a bachelor’s degree in Biological Science along with my Illinois teaching certificate. In 2012, I went back to school and received my master's degree in teaching science and math education. It's my goal to provide all students with an educationally challenging, yet fun, experience in my classroom. I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you and your child throughout the year.
My curriculum is based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).Students will be encouraged to think and explore using the 8 scientific practices: 1. Asking questions 2. Developing and using models 3. Planning and carrying out investigations 4. Analyzing and interpreting data 5. Using mathematics and computational thinking 6. Constructing explanations 7. Engaging in argument from evidence 8. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information
I believe by engaging in the practices of science students will have a deeper understand of the science and how scientific knowledge develops. If you would like more information regarding the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) please visit http://www.nextgenscience.org/. We will not be using textbooks and will utilize an inquiry method of learning.
When I am not in my classroom, I am spending time with my husband, Dave, and 2 boys, Witten & Walker. I'm a die hard Dallas Cowboys Fan. I also enjoy traveling, reading and watching reality tv!
